Un Petit Monde

The figures we use in our scenes are less than 1 inch or 2cm in height. In the hobby world, they are commonly referred to as HO or 1:87 scale.

We purchase the miniatures from local hobby shops or online. However, Kurt will manipulate (reconfigure limbs, glue, and paint) the figures. He also creates a lot of the props by hand.

Our Un Petit Monde photography has been featured in various magazines, books, and online sites. Some of the publications include: Entertainment Weekly, Men’s Health, Minnesota, Photo Tech, American Craft, Duluth News Tribune, 4-Seasons, Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, Huffpost, and L’art Du Minuscule.

Kurt uses a full-frame Nikon Mirrorless camera body and a 15mm Wide Angle Macro lens to shoot all of the scenes. The lens is the most important part of Kurt's process because it allows him to get very close to the figures yet capture a large part of the background, giving context to the scene.
